Colombia Today is a section of the Mira vé Colombia website that discusses current events in Colombia and also looks back at the country’s past.
This section came about because I was talking to my Colombian wife about finding a category to discuss Colombia in general. And Colombia Today ended up beating Mundo Colombia, which was my favorite name for that category up until that point.
Since then, Colombia Today has become an open and genuine space, where the country’s daily life is captured from different angles: politics, viral news, social movements, the challenges faced by ordinary people, and also those stories that are worth remembering. It is a place where conversation flows as it would in any Colombian living room, over coffee and honest chat. Here we do not seek perfection: we seek closeness, identity, and truth.
And although the idea began with the intention of covering the present, we realized that to understand «today» it is also necessary to look back. That is why Colombia Today also revives key moments from the past: from the impact of historical leaders to changing customs, the evolution of the media, and the way in which the country has been rewriting its course.
This digital corner exists thanks to the link between two worlds: mine as an observer and that of my Colombian wife, who lives and breathes the country every day. That’s how Colombia Today was born, as a way to bring us closer to the Colombian reality without filters or labels.
It’s finally Christmas, but we’re outside of Colombia. However, that doesn’t dampen our desire to enjoy December and celebrate the arrival of the Baby Jesus.
